Must Have HR Policies for 2024 (Part 1 of 3)

As we enter 2024, an internal HR review is critical for every employer. Below is a list of items, which is the first in a three (3) part series, that every employer should review as we enter 2024.

At-will employment policy statement

Employees should be hired and employed “at will,” which allows both the employer or the employee to terminate the employment relationship at any time, as long as the reason is lawful.

Non-discrimination policy

A non-discrimination policy, which is an essential aspect of any workplace, is a formal statement or a set of guidelines that clearly communicates a company’s commitment to treating all individuals equally.

Anti-harassment policy

An anti-harassment policy is crucial so that every employees work environment is free from intimidation, as well as offensive conduct from other employees.

Retaliation of a policy

Every employer must make sure that all employees are free from retaliation, if an employee has reported a violation of a workplace policy, or a violation of the law. Forms of retaliation can include termination or dismissal, exclusion or isolation, creating a hostile work environment, falling to promote the employee who filed the complaint, or any other discriminatory treatment.

Social media policy

In today’s digital age, social media has become an integral part of every business, as well as our personal lives. However, it’s important for companies to create and enforce social media policies that protect the reputation of the company.

Employment laws are complex, and employers should consult with a law firm that is well versed in employment law matters.
