Featured Presentation: Terminating Employees the Right Way

Presented by Stuart J. Oberman, Esq.

One mishandled termination can expose a business to serious legal and financial liability, and most employment lawsuits come from avoidable mistakes rather than bad intentions: poor documentation, inconsistent treatment, or missed legal requirements. Stuart will walk business owners through how to reduce that risk with sound documentation, compliant policies, and a proper offboarding process.

Topics include:

  • The real cost of improper terminations: wrongful termination and retaliation claims, and EEOC, DOL, and OSHA investigations
  • Federal laws to consider before letting someone go: Title VII, the ADA, FMLA, ADEA, and OSHA
  • Ten common employment mistakes business owners make, and how to avoid them
  • Why every business needs an updated employee handbook, including the essential policies it should contain
  • Separation letters: the often-overlooked document that protects your business after the termination meeting ends
